Real-time transactions don't have a new look by any stretch of the imagination. D2R didn't pioneer them, and it would be false to say that this is a actual fact. This action-RPG by Blizzard isn't really the primary reason, but rather it's the most terrible amalgamation of free to play mobile and PC games.
