Benzodiazepines
Benzodiazepines are a group of drug used to treat anxiety disorders, insomnia, and seizures. They are also used for treating muscle spasms and pain. The core chemical structure of these drugs is a benzene ring and a diazepine ring.
Sedative
There are several drugs that are classified as sedatives and hypnotics, including benzodiazepines. Some of the benzodiazepines used to treat sleep disorders are zolpidem, alprazolam, and diazepam. They are also used to treat anxiety.

The sedative effects of benzodiazepines are characterized by sleep-inducing and muscle relaxing properties. The sedative effects of benzodiazepines may be induced by concomitant use of methyldopa, triprolidine, and other drugs that potentiate the CNS effects of benzodiazepines.
Benzodiazepines can induce drowsiness and respiratory depression. Although these effects can occur at low doses, higher doses can result in more complex sleep-related behaviors. Concomitant use of anxiolytics and sedatives may increase the intensity and frequency of adverse effects.
