The Kashmir Files

The Kashmir Files is an acclaimed film directed by Vivek Agnihotri, based on the 1990 mass exodus of Hindu Pandits from Kashmir. It has a strong message and is one of the most successful Bollywood movies of 2022.

But it is not a film for everyone. Many people have criticized it for its controversial and dishonest depiction of history.

In fact, Indian film critic Rahul Desai called it a “defensive and dishonest dive into the past where every Muslim was a Nazi and every Hindu, a Jew”. He also called it a “propaganda that strove to tune in with the Hindu nationalist mood of the nation rather than offer genuine empathy to the displaced victims”

The film stars Chinamy Mandlekar as Vishnu Ram, a journalist who interrogates a terrorist named Bitta Karate (also known as Farooq Ahmed Dar), who confessed to killing 25 Kashmiri Pandits. The movie is loosely inspired by the real-life terrorist Bitta Karate, whose name was synonymous with terror in Kashmir.

Vikram

Based on an Indian folktale, Vikram Vedha revolves around a tough cop, Vikram (Saif Ali Khan), who sets out to hunt down a dangerous gangster, Vedha Betal (Hrithik Roshan). Pushkar and Gayatri’s script takes the mythical tale and turns it into a modern-day story.

The script focuses on two main characters, Vikram and Vedha, whose worldviews are divided into black and white. As an honest police officer, Vikram has a sense of what’s right and wrong, which helps him in his mission to capture Vedha.

Hrithik Roshan’s Vedha, on the other hand, has an understanding of the gray areas between crime and punishment, which he uses to his advantage. He narrates to Vikram stories that test his moral compass and help him realise that he isn’t entirely separated from Vedha, who has become a pawn in a larger game.

Saif Ali Khan’s Vikram keeps us invested in this movie, even when it’s clear that the bad guy has more meat to chew on. He’s in control of his body language, embraces his character’s internal strengths and vulnerabilities and depicts a gradual change in thinking really well.

Kantara

Kantara is one of the highest-grossing Indian films this year and it has won over audiences across borders. Director Rishab Shetty says the success of the film is due to its local flavor.

It is a powerful story that is depicted with the help of folklore and art from the region. It also makes a compelling case for rural beliefs and traditional civilizations.

The plot revolves around the conflict between Shiva, a young man of a forest-dwelling tribe and Murali, a feudal officer who takes possession of a piece of land that belongs to a tribal deity for his own reasons. The battle of egos swirls around the traditions and culture of the village and eventually leads to a war between the villagers and the evil forces.

The movie has a lot of eye-catching scenes and action sequences that leave us breathless. Its cinematography and music direction are also superb. It is a must-watch for all the movie lovers.

Sita Ramam

A love story spanning two timelines, Sita Ramam unravels the mystery around its title characters — Lt Ram (Dulquer Salmaan) and Princess Noor Jahan alias Sita Mahalakshmi (Mrunal Thakur). The film unfolds from Kashmir to Hyderabad and back to Kashmir.

Based on a real story, Sita Ramam revolves around the love story of Lieutenant Ram and Sita Mahalakshmi. It stars Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles.

The movie opens with a Pakistani student Afreen (Rashmika Mandanna) arriving in India from London. When she finds out that she is entrusted with the job of delivering a letter written by Lieutenant Ram (Dulquer Salmaan), she reluctantly accepts.

There are many touching episodes where Hindu-Muslims come together and avert a big tragedy. This is the heart of this movie.

Hanu Raghavapudi utilises his strengths of writing and visuals to good effect in Sita Ramam. Cinematographers PS Vinod and Shreyaas Krishna capture gorgeous visuals that are matched by Vishal Chandrashekhar’s music.

Pathaan

Shah Rukh Khan's latest outing, Pathaan, has beaten Avatar to become the highest-grossing Indian movie of all time. It also became the fastest film to cross the Rs200-crore mark, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Set against the backdrop of the revocation of India's article 370, Pathaan tells the story of an Indian super spy who reunites with a formidable international agent to fight off a ruthless plot of global terrorism. Together, the two men fly across continents to indulge in a dangerous game of vengeance and betrayal.

In Dubai, Pathaan and his team got intel that Outfit X was planning to attack the President of India. To avoid that, they changed the route of their convoy and diverted it away from the target. However, they didn't expect Jim to kidnap the two scientists, who were accompanying the president.

Throughout the movie, Pathaan goes to great lengths to save his colleagues. When he sees his superior being hacked, it stirs something inside him. And he tries to avenge the death of his parents, who were assassinated by a mysterious group of people.

Bhediya

Bhediya, directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan, is a horror comedy that also features Kriti Sanon. The film is a part of Vijan’s horror-comedy universe and was a huge hit domestically.

The plot revolves around a man who turns into a wolf in order to protect the forests from those trying to destroy them. It is a classic Indian tale that is used to tell the importance of nature and the need to save it.

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan recently shared a picturesque scene from the shooting of the movie on his Instagram page. The film is set to release this November in cinemas across the country.

It's a comedy-horror film that is directed by Amar Kaushik and focuses on a road project in the forest of Ziro (Arunachal Pradesh). The film stars Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, and Deepak Dobriyal.

Drishyam 2

In this sequel, seven years after his first film, Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) is back in the limelight. He owns a cable television business, has a family and is close to fulfilling his dream of producing a movie. But he's still plagued with his eternal nightmare - the police investigating the death of a fleeing murderer that happened while Vijay was burying the body.

There's a good chance that anyone who saw Drishyam would be happy to have a second go at it, but it's the way Jeethu Joseph - and Abhishek Pathak - weave a tale of intrigue around the murder that makes this a truly engaging watch.

Mohanlal does superb work as George Kutty, who's a man so sedate he makes you believe he's harmless; a minimum man, a school dropout 'nothing' striving for something through cinema. The character was a wonderful conception, and his performance complements the screenplay.

Vikram Vedha

Vikram Vedha is an edge-of-your-seat action thriller that tells the story of a tough police officer who sets out to track down and kill a menacing gangster. It’s a story about good and evil, and the gray area between them.

Based on an Indian folktale involving Betal and Vikram, this film focuses on the philosophy that “between good and evil, what you choose defines you.” It also explores the idea that even good people can be pawns in a larger game. It’s a resonant, well-executed film that is worth checking out.

The plot is simple: a no-nonsense police officer Vikram (R Madhavan) leads an encounter unit that targets Vedha (Hrithik Roshan). After Vedha voluntarily surrenders, Vikram interrogates him and asks him to narrate a story.

The stories Vedha tells Vikram change his perceptions of good and evil. He realizes that a bad person can commit a morally wrong action for good purposes. Vedha’s answers to the questions he asks of him reveal that there is always a different side to everything.
