The Network Operations Center (NOC) is a state-of-the-art technical facility that houses network servers and devices to ensure stable and reliable service for the university's commercial systems. It is a central management center capable of identifying, reporting and repairing problems when they occur and projecting when and where they can occur.

NOC's services include secure hosting and management of business technology services such as email, web services, firewalls for corporate networks, and student and financial systems. Many university departments use NOC's Enterprise Server Hosting Service for applications that require high levels of availability and security.

The NOC is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the systems are constantly monitored for problems. The services Enterprise Monitoring (Netcool) and Enterprise Backup (NetBackup) are provided by this installation. The NOC is home to the high-performance computing cluster of the Computer Research Center (formerly Center for Simulation and Modeling). This facilitates computer-aided research throughout the university, as well as several powerful computer pools in the departments. NOC engineer support the research network and server infrastructure. The NOC also hosts all websites in the university's corporate infrastructure and offers managed server hosting (both physical and virtual) for university departments. The NOC offers investigators working on projects that require special handling of confidential data an environment that complies with the Federal Law on Information Security Management (FISMA). The NOC has redundant power supplies as well as uninterruptible power supplies and backup generators to prevent a widespread system failure due to power failures.

Job prospects and salary information

According to the United States Department of Labor Statistics (BLS), network support specialists, professionals who have a lot in common with NOC technicians, could expect a 6% increase in employment opportunities between 2018 and 2028. The BLS also reported that these specialists earned an average annual salary of $ 62,770 in May 2018.
