NBA2K transcends the shadows of the NBA prior to the next-generation launch of the series.
In just a few months the players bought over 5 million copies of NBA2K21 -- an astounding amount even for a game that's experienced steady growth for the past few years. It's predicted that it will be one of the most popular titles on next-generation consoles.
It's kind of wild to consider that two of the top-rated games of the series both came just a few months into the series' existence. This proves that these games helped changed things even though they weren't as customizable options or features in depth that the future ones did. Although the original NBA 2K received positive reviews, NBA 2K1 raised the standards. The game's gameplay was enhanced and the game was the first to feature online multiplayer. Also, it was equipped with iconic streetball courts such as Rucker Park to be enjoyed if you wanted something different from the traditional arenas.
Since it was made by Sega, this series was initially available only to Dreamcast users at the time it first was launched. This changed with the release of NBA 2K2, as it was released for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Gamecube which opened it up to a larger fan base. This was a major change for the game.
