This move is one I enjoy significantly less. The issue isn't in the player here, it's signing one of the players to the terms of a contract for free agents that will outdo his production. Edmonds is a good all-purpose running back with a decent performance, but nothing outstanding.
I don't recall an ex- Cardinals RB listed among the five best rushers currently available, and I believe that his talent could have been easily acquired at the time of the draft. I would have preferred to have that the Dolphins invest more money in a player with elite potential such as Rashaad Penny, than give Edmonds more than $6 million annually.
I really, really like this decision due to what it could mean for the remainder of Cincinnati's free agency. My worry was that the team would use its massive amount of free space to sign a couple of big name players, but do not have a holistic way to market.
Cappa, the former Buccaneers' guard, is solid value at a price of $10 million for the level of his production. Cappa is a major upgrade to the offensive line and needs been revamped to assist Joe Burrow, and I appreciate that he'sn't eating the entire cap space so that is tied to the Bengals the hands of their opponents.
If these kinds of moves continue , and the Bengals can secure smart signings in areas where they are needed without blowing their entire budget, the Bengals are going to be even more terrifying in 2022.
It's not a secret that Michael Gallup is a really an excellent player. Additionally, he's (by all accounts) a great locker room mate and a loved person within the organization. However, from the standpoint of football, it's a major over-use of the allowance spaces Dallas currently has.
Gallup has struggled to regain the production from his 1.100 yard season of 2019. with a slowdown in the past two seasons. The biggest reason for it was an injury-shortened 2021 which saw him finish year on IR, but cutting Amari Cooper to save money but then signing Gallup with almost the same price feels like hope, but it's not really a plan.
Los Angeles are future-proofing their offensive line with an overwhelming vote of confidence by announcing the retirement of Joe Notebloom, who was the left tackle in place of Andrew Whitworth. It's likely to be a sign that Whitworth is hanging it up at the last minute, unless there is a dramatic return a la Tom Brady.
