Game director Joe Shely explains during a recent roundtable that Diablo 4 Gold reimagining sets in a way that suits Diablo 4 properly wouldn't be possible until the beginning of next year, though the team is looking at including them as part of Live service.
"As we've been working on the game, it seemed it was possible to evolve sets in a completely new approach to the ones we've observed during Diablo 4. However, we'd like more time to integrate them into the game with a style that would work well with the rest of Diablo 4, so you aren't going to see them in the first few days on the map," Shely explains. "We think sets are awesome, and we're looking to be sure that they're done right - so we're looking over for our Live service."
"There's a staff legendary within the demo that changes the spell's fireball in triple fireball," former director of games Luis Barriga told Polygon(opens in new tab) in the year 2019. "The difference might be that the spell that's activated spell in the current version of Diablo 4 gives you bonuses greater than a thousand. We're attempting to design the game to be less constrained so that we don't get ourselves into that escalating performance curve."
If you're new to the concept to the term "set", Set Items are in essence strong devices that can offer more power when put together. They're "set" since they're always offering the same benefits, and also they're part of an assortment. They first came into play during Diablo 2, though it was in Diablo 4 when they became more dominant. It remains to be seen how they'll affect how they affect the Diablo 4 meta should they come to the game, though there is no doubt that their influence on the Sanctuary's unfurling fashion scene will be felt.
This Diablo 4 beta hasn't convinced me yet, but I'm looking forward to playing longer (Set Items or not).
