A Course in Miracles - Averting Fear - I. Current Memory

T-28.I.1. A miracle does nothing. 2 All it does is undo. 3 And thus undoes the interference with what has been done. 4 It does not add, but only subtracts. 5 And what it takes away is long gone, but keeping in memory seems to have immediate effects. 6 This world ended long ago. 7 The thoug

T-28.I.2. All the consequences of guilt are no longer here. 2 For guilt is ended. 3 Its effects are gone, they remain without a cause. 4 Why would you cling to it in memory if you did not desire its effects? 5 Remembering is as selective as perception because it is its past tense. 6 It is the perception of the past as if it were happening now and still visible. 7 Memory, like perception, is a skill you have created to replace what God has given in your creation. 8 And like all things you have made, it can be used for another purpose and be a means to something else. 9 It can be used to heal rather than harm if you wish.

T-28.I.3. Nothing used for healing represents an effort to do anything at all. 2 It is an acknowledgment that you have no needs, which means that something needs to be done. 3 It is a non-selective memory that is not used to interfere with the truth. 4 Everything that the Holy Spirit can use to heal has been given to him, A Course In Miracleswithout the content or purpose for which they were created. 5 They are just skills without application. 6 They are waiting to be used. 7 They have no determination and no goal.

T-28.I.4. The Holy Spirit can actually use memory because God himself is there. 2 However, this is not a memory of past events, but only of the present state. 3 You've been so used to believing that memory only contains what's past that it's hard for you to realize that it's a skill you can remember now. 4 The limitations on remembering what the world imposes on him are as vast as those you allow the world to impose. 5 There is no association of memory with the past. 6 If you would like to have it there, here it is. 7 But only your desire made the connection, and only you held it for a time when the guilt still seems to linger.

T-28.I.5. The use of memory by the Holy Spirit is quite different from time. 2 He's not trying to use it as a means to preserve the past, but rather as a way to let it go. 3 The memory stores the received message and does what it is assigned. 4 It does not write a message, nor does it specify what it is for. 5 Like the body, it is purposeless in itself. 6 And if it seems to serve to preserve ancient hatreds, and to give you pictures of the injustices and pains that you have saved, then you wished that its message was and that it is. 7 Devoted to its vaults, the history of all the body's past is hidden there. 8 All the strange associations formed to keep the past alive, the present dead, are stored in it, waiting at your command to be brought to you and live again. 9 And so their effects seem to be magnified by time, which has taken away their cause.
