Bell & Ross’ BR-X5 Green Lum is their most sci-fi watch yet
Bell & Ross’ latest limited edition all-luminous watch takes a different approach, letting the case shine instead of the dial.
The BR-X5’s sandwich box is designed with innovative composite luminescent material LM3D.
Limited edition, it is the most technologically advanced full-luminous watch to date.
Since 2017, Bell & Ross’ Lum collection has been one of their most coveted (and recognizable) pieces. While not all watches in the Lum collection feature full luminous dials, it has become a Bell & Ross signature... but their latest creation, the BR-X5 Green Lum, changes that, as it's the only One of the high luxury store with a full lumen case.
The material used to create this effect is a photoluminescent composite made of quartz fibers called LM3D, which was manufactured exclusively for Bell & Ross. It has a matte appearance and is a sturdy material similar to some of the fiberglass composites used by high-end brands like Franck Muller and Richard Mille.
The BR-X5 Green Lum features a multi-part case construction that alternates between LM3D material and Grade 2 micro-blasted titanium. The same goes for the crown and crown guard, which are also made of micro-blasted titanium. It is then treated with a DLC coating, which creates a matte finish on the metal that complements the matte black dial and ultimately highlights the LM3D case. Nighttime readability won't be an issue with this watch - just don't be surprised when you look down and see your whole wrist lights up...
The square case looks like it was lifted straight out of the F-18's instrument cluster, measuring 41mm in diameter and slightly larger on the sides at 12.8mm thick. The dial is matte black and very busy: the subdial at 9 o'clock tracks the power reserve of up to 70 hours and looks a lot like a fuel gauge, while the date window at 3 o'clock also looks a lot like an altimeter. The hour and minute markers feature applied hour markers, and the hour and minute hands feature Super-LumiNova.best luxury watches
While the all-luminous case is undoubtedly the focal point of this watch, strip away all the luminous display and remove the titanium case, and inside you’ll find a movement designed and manufactured by modern movement royalty Kenissi. The BR-CAL.323 is a chronometer-certified movement with a 70-hour power reserve, similar to the movement used in the now-discontinued Tudor North Flag. This movement represents a huge step forward in quality and horological capabilities for Bell & Ross, making the BR-X5 Green Lum arguably the most technologically advanced full-luminous watch to date.
This may be nominally a pilot's watch, but I think the BR-X5 Green Lum is truly suitable as a swimming companion. The screw-down crown and 100 meters of water resistance mean that if you so choose, you can watch the LM3D photoluminescent case work its magic underwater, and magic is definitely the word.
