Poker is a fun game that requires some smarts to play well. One of the most important things to know is how to rank your cards. This is called hand rankings and it basically tells you which hand is stronger than another.

Think of it like this: the higher the ranking of your hand, the better chance you have of winning the pot!

Let's break down the rankings/poker sequence, from super strong to just okay:

  • Royal Flush: This is the king (or queen) of the poker world! It's very rare, but if you get an Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten all in the same suit, you've got a Royal Flush!
  • Straight Flush: Almost as good as a Royal Flush is a Straight Flush. This is any five cards in a row, all in the same suit. For example, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of hearts would be a Straight Flush.
  • Four of a Kind: Imagine having four of the same card, like four Queens! That's a Four of a Kind, and it's pretty tough to beat.
  • Full House: This hand is like having three of a kind (like three Aces) and a pair (like two Jacks). Pretty sweet, right?
  • Flush: Five cards of the same suit, but not necessarily in a row, is a Flush. So, an Ace, Ten, Eight, Five, and Three of hearts would be a Flush.

Now we're getting into more common hands:

  • Straight: Five cards in a row, but not all in the same suit. Like 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of different suits.
  • Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same rank, plus two other cards.
  • Two Pair: Two different pairs, like two Aces and two Eights.
  • One Pair: Just two cards of the same rank, like two Queens.
  • High Card: No pairs? No problem! The highest card in your hand determines who wins in this case.

Bonus Tip: There are different variations of poker, so the hand rankings might change a little bit depending on the game you're playing.

Remember, practice makes perfect! The more you play and learn about hand rankings, the better you'll become at poker.

Good luck at the tables!
